Located in Brentwood and situated among the picturesque oak-dappled hills at the foot of Mount Diablo, Deer Ridge offers wonderful views and first-rate amenities.

The course closed on September 8, 2019.
SunCoast Properties, which owns the course, posted a sign at the Brentwood, Calif. property citing “financial conditions brought on by ever-increasing maintenance, operational cost and lower revenues” as the reasons for the closing. Shadow Lakes GC, which sits across the street and is under the same ownership, closed almost two years ago.

We played New Years Day. After all the rain, I picked this course because it drains relatively well. Roddy nearby also drains well, but we had played that 2 days before. Deer Ridge was in good shape. The greens were receptive, but not mushy and the fairways still had some roll. We played in 4.25 hours which was OK for our foursome (between 9-15 course handicap off blue tees). I'll definitely be back again, between Shadow, Deer and nearby Roddy there is enough variety, and a good deal can usually be found, which makes it well worth the 35-40 minute ride.

The staff is friendly and efficient. The ambiance is great and the 4 finishing holes are really great. If you haven't played here, it is a must play.

The course is always in good condition. Pace of play is a little slow but not horrible. It has challenges that are scenic and not overwhelming. Golf shop and food service is limited.

The pace of play is 5hrs. Fairways, Tees and greens are above average. At $25.00, this course is a steal, although on the weekend it becomes unreasonable.

After a month of heavy rain the course was in pretty good shape. Nice layout and a fair price. Could work on the pace of play though.

Found the course to be challenging and fair in that good shots were rewarded and bad ones were punished. Two different nines, and the back has the feel of being on your own golf course as there are not parallel holes and lots of natural vegetation to work your way around.

My last time to get to play my favorite course design. If this course was in any populated area, the price would be three times higher. I live in the Monterey area which has great courses but I've never played a design like this. Not long, not particulary hard for a slope of 132 (blue), but you have to think your way around the course or it will be very difficult. If this course doesn't make it (area hard hit by housing crisis), I hope the NCGA buys it. The design is just too good to lose.

Third time at the course and still love it as much as always. I'm going to truly miss it when I leave California. Very simiar to his other design at Spanos Park in Stockton, but much more challenging. Based on playing two of his courses, the architect is a genius.

The back nine is better than the front. A very confined feel on the front nine due to too many houses.

Very nice and well maintained year-round. Good challenge but playable for all skill levels. Birthday and everyday specials make this a great value.

Still ranks as the course I would play the rest of my life if I could only play one course

Fantastic course -- play it while you can before it goes private. Lack of driving range is a negative, but there are three other courses within two minutes for warming up beforehand. Makes you think, but very fair.

If I had to play one course the rest of my life, Deer Ridge would be it. You have to think your way through, not just bomb away.

This is not a very long course even at the tips (~6300 yards) but it is very challenging. I'm decent off the tee but not super long. Most par 4s I was hitting my rescue club and once my 4 iron. For me I had to play my distance correct for my approach shots. Great course with character. A lot of undulating fairways and greens.
